965 Auto Climate Control Question 900

Yesterday, the auto climate control on our 96 965 did something new. On first start, with controls set at auto, the fan kicked on full blast. My understanding is it shouldn't come on until it detects coolant of at least 95 degrees F., which it hadn't. Did this again later in the day. But, at the end of the day proceeded to function normally. Anyone have any experience with this? Sensor? Control modole?
