power steering 200 1990

I need some help. I have a 90 240 Dl with a 5 speed transmission. The power steering when the car is cold is stiff. As the car warms up the steering becomes abit easier but does not return to centre after cornering. My mechanic checked the steering column u joints and feels that they are fine. He doesn`t specialize in Volvos so I`m looking for some help.
