How to Relieve Fuel Pressure 200 1986

I was wondering how to relieve fuel pressure to change the filter. I just ordered a fuel filter and the other day I tried to releive the fuel pressure by takign out the fuel pump fuse and running the car. I let it idle for about 3 minutes and it didn't stall so I am wondering how you can release the pressure. And when replacing the fuel filter, do you have to plug the lines, and does a lot of gas come out? Thanks.
