700 temp gauge needle position 700

New to the 700 series - my 88 740 GLE temp gauge needle is exactly at 12:00 position when engine is fully warmed up. In other words, the needle points straight up. Is this the normal position? My 240 needle settles at the lower 1/3 of the gauge just for comparison (gauge reads from 7:00 to 11:00 approx ....)
