IN TANK PUMP IN 740 WAGON 700

Hi: Is it posible in a 740 wagon that it could cause a limp home condition, meaning massive lose of power and a lot of engine noise ? Or your 2nd choise is a intermediate failing coil ? What are your best thoughts on this matter ? Which is more likely to be the correct or almost correct answer? Thanks ,Dan. PS I jumped the fuel relay. when this is done do both pumps come on or just the main pump?
