Mirror Placement 1800 1971

For better or worse, I've decided to put my 71E back together the way I want it. Sorry if that has included some insults to the purist... For example, removing the side marker lamps, converting from the original BW35 to M41/OD transmission, putting a Saab electic antenna on the passenger side rear fender, etc. Right now I'm torn between putting the outside mirrors back in the same location on the door or farther forward on the fender. Anyone out there have experience they're willing to share on how the fender mirrors work out?
