1986 Volvo 740 CLOCK SETTING STEM - INSTRUMENT PANEL QUESTION 700

Okay, clearly I'm a Volvo novice and I'm trying to save time AND frustration.

The clock setting stem on the instrument panel (No. 1) of my 1986 Volvo 740 Turbo doesn't work. Everything else on the instrument panel works fine, except that there's a bulb probably burned out that doesn't fully illuminate the right hand side of the speedometer. The clock setting stem (No. 1) feels like it's snapped down inside where the gear would normally turn the clock hands. When I push it in to try to set the clock, you can feel it touching something but it just doesn't have the proper connection to rotate the gears. I was a scrap yard recently and actually found an entire instrument panel for $25.00 (in perfect condition and identical to my present one and with a clock setting stem fully-functional) (No. 2). My question is would it be better to replace No. 1 with No. 2, or to try to remove the No. 1 stem and replace it with the stem from No. 2. The instrument panel (No. 2) came out by just unscrewing two screws and was relatively easy to remove.

Alright, give Junior some guidance here...
