Memory Seat Question 900

The drivers seat in our 1993 has the seat memory option. The power adjustments work fine, but setting the seat memory seems to have no effect. All three buttons will not memorize the position, but seem to move the seat to a default position when pressed.

Some one told me that the newer Volvos use the ECU for seat memory, and thus control power from the main battery, but that older ones use a separate memory unit with it's own battery (like a watch battery?) in the unit on the seat. Is this so, and is so where is the battery?
