I Changed My Headlight S90-V90 1996

I changed the passenger side headlight on my 965. A rock had hit it creating a hole and several large cracks. I ordered a replacement last week from www.erievolvo.com and it arrived several days later. It looked new actually and had the bulbs as well. I spent A few hours on Saturday morning after I got back from work. (I work at night now).

I fumbled around a bit at first looking at the hadlight and the car trying to figure out just where to start, besides removing the grill. There is a side panel in the grill area that has two small torx screws that must come out. The turn signal must come out first to get the headlight housing unbolted from the car.

The turn signal comes out rather easily, there is a white clip beside the headlight and the electrical connector can either be removed or the light bulb and socket, with attached wires, can be removed. It just pops out and it would be a good idea to check to make sure the out plastic cover is not loose. If it is use epoxy to reglue it.

There are two screws behind the removed turn signal, 10mm, and a nut and bolt by the radiator. The headlight wiper and washer motor shaft goes through the plastic bumper cover. To save time, I cut the top piece above the shaft. No one can see it and I don't care.

The old one comes out with some twisting and turning. The wiper motor is attached to the bottom of the headlight housing. I took the old one inside and swapped the metal clips and the wiper motor.

This is important, make sure the electrical pins on the new headlight are the same as the old ones. If not, swap the harness inside the housing. Use slip joint pliars to free the headlight electrical connector on he back of the housing. It takes some work to get the old connector out but it can be done. The new pins were shoved back inside the connector and the lights would not work. I had to swap the internal harness.

Replace the housing and the electrical connectors including the wiper motor, and put the turn signal back in.

The car looks better now and I'll be getting new wipers for the headlights as well.

That's my report.
