FRUSTRATED! How to install gas flap?? 700 1988

Hi there all, I have an '88 740 Turbo Wagon. Weeks ago my gas flap fell off the car. I have purchased the black plastic bracket and new hinge. Have attempted to put everything back together, but no luck. What is the correct install?? Particularly for the metal hinge? It keeps snapping off.
