Headlight bulbs 900 1994

Had a headlight go out on me this morning and decided to get Sylvania Silverstar high performance halogen bulb to replace the regular one. This was a 9007 ST, and would not fit into the light fitting. Cannot see why this was so, as the fitting appears to be identical, the only differnece between the normal 9004 and the Silverstar being the light output. Where did I go wrong??
Would appreciate any advice pity to waste the money!
