camshafts and performance 200 1983

I've got a 83 244 GL b23f w/ m46 which I'm rebuilding. My camshaft seized but I've had the engine line bored but I still wish to replace the cam for saftey. I have questioned purchasing a vx cam but $200 is pricy. My car comes with a M cam but I've been told if I were to put a K cam in I could get a serious boost(comparable to the vx) and I could get it much cheaper(volvo junkyard only minutes away from my home). Is this both plausable and sane? Should I stick to purchasing a either new vx or a used M?
