desperating turbo noise... beginning of the end? 700 1989

Yes... a few months only after the purchase of the "ultimate driving machine" (according to Volvo brochure 15 years ago), 745T '89 wgn 199k and although I am using the turbo sparingly, it has started to "purr".
This happened after all belts incl. timing belt were replaced -- I don't see the link, though. It's an intermittent noise at idling that becomes stronger around 2000 rpm (and at higher rpms). Doesn't seem to affect (yet) turbo performance, though. My mechanic (not Volvo specialist but so far so good) says it's no big deal and just wear/tear of the turbine due to age but... I need this one to last, perferably with a working turbo!

So, should I throw an additive into the oil to slow down aging? or use a specific oil brand/type at the next change? or must I have the turbo checked by an experienced Volvo specialist asap?

Any advice to a novice from experienced turbo bricksters would be soooo appreciated...
