After having read the FAQs about the wiring situation on 1986 740 Turbo, I've purchased an OEM wiring harness. Figured if I didn't need it now, I would soon, and it's better to have it with me and not need than otherwise. Based on the estimates from various shops in the area, I'm looking at about $300-$350 labor to have the engine wiring harness replaced.
There's a few things I'm still concerned about though. Recently, just poking around, I disconnected the oil sender wire from the switch to familiarize myself with it and reconnected it, and the flickering oil light stopped for about a three days. Now it's starting to flicker ever-so-slightly again when I brake at slow speed, but it doesn't come on at all when the vehicle is moving or accelerating. Also, just this week my BULB OUT light started to flicker, first, then it came on, so I get out and check the lights and the rear driver's parking light is out (thank goodness for those handy rear fog lights). I check the bulb, and it's blown, so I replace it. While driving, the BULB OUT light comes on again, so I get out and check the last offender bulb, and the bulb is fine. But now the reverse light on the driver's side is out because I can see it in the reflection of a window I am parked in front of. I check that bulb, and it's not blown but the BULB OUT indicator is still glowing tangerine orange. Weird. So I drive home, and park rear-end first so I can see the reflection in my glass door, and the reverse lights are now both on, but the BULB OUT light is still glowing orange. All of the other lights, bulbs and markers are working fine.
Question: are these indicators/symptomatic of needing the engine wiring harness replaced? And, as I'm reading I'm seeing that there are other wiring points. Might these also need replacement in addition to the engine wiring harness?
I hope I'm not being a pest.
