Power questions 200

I'm interested to find out what the best way to get more power for my wife's '85 240DL wagon? The tired 4 cylinder takes a while to get going and sounds like it's going to burst into flames beyond 4.5k rpms. There's 85psi compression in each cylinder, what's it suppose to be at? What kind of engine swaps (staying with Volvo engines) are popular? How much hp do the turboed 4&6 cylinder engines produce? Thanks for any help.
