Electric fan keeps running 900 1997

Volvo 960 – 97’

After I turn the engine off an electric fan is still running for about five minutes (after highway driving). Control panel shows the temperature at the middle. It never happened before. I have two thoughts: either an electric fan switch is bad or something wrong with a temperature sensor. Any advice or thoughts would be appreciated.
