window guide material replacement 120-130

I've managed to find some window chanel guide material to replace the entirely rotted-out driver-side portion on my window. Will I have to pull out the whole assembly to put the new guide stuff in, or can it be done with the door-panel off and sliding the window out somehow? Does glue hold the stuff in place inside the metal channel? What am I in for here with this project in other words?
