I just purchased a 1991 240 GL from my Grandmother that has 70,000 miles on it.

She told me the only thing wrong with it was the AC doesn't work. I turned it on and there were no gastly noises to speak of but it didn't seem to work.

Question 1a. How can I tell if it just needs more refridgerant or something else major is wrong with the system?

Question 1b. If it needs a recharge, don't I need to convert? How extensive is that process and how much cash will that run?

I noticed the engine is pretty noisy, but I gather that is normal.

Question 2. Is there anything I can do to quiet things down in the passenger compartment?

Question 3. Are there any frequent problems with this model that I should know about in order to prevent or diagnose future issues?
