Slow Power Windows 200 1988

My power windows are getting slow. I read somewhere that in order to avoid burning the motors I should grease the window. That is, I should spray silicon spray down the slit alognside the window and work the window up and down. Has anyone ever tried this? Does it work? Thanks.
