$273 & speedo + odo still dead 700 1992

This is a 940 type speedo as was installed in the last model year of the 740.

Symptoms:

1. Began a year or so ago, speedo needle would, at startup, sometimes hover directly over 45mph and stay there. After driving a few seconds, speedometer needle would behave normally.

2. A few months ago, odometer would work only intermittently, and then not at all.

3. Sometime thereafter, speedometer would sometimes not work at all until a few minutes of driving, but then would behave normally.

4. A few weeks ago, speedometer and odometer both failed to do anything at all, but occasionally on startup, needle would still hover at 45mph.

What I did:

A. Checked/resecured grounding connections at passenger footwell kickpanel.

B. Checked connections at back of Speedo unit.

C. Visually examined wires at the differential sending unit, but coulnd't see much. They're under insulation. I was told here that If the ABS warning lamp is not on, then the sending unit should be OK, because they both work off the same sensor.

D. Sent the Speedometer off to A+ Emission Tune and Speedometer Repairs in Jacksonville Florida. I included a note asking that they please make sure that the Speedo was in fact bad before attempting any repair in case I had a wiring problem. I was told by him that the speedo and odo were in fact both bad, that he checked before repair. $273.06!

E. I just put the unit back in. Same symptoms! AHHHHHHHHH!!!!!

F. Help?
