Valve Cover Gasket 700

Can someone please help me out with the following problem ? I have a 88 740GLE,B230F non-turbo engine. How do you get the new gasket to conform to the 180 degree radious on the front and rear of the head without the gasket cracking ? I bought a new (after market) gasket and it is flat, not preformed as I think it should be. Are the Volvo OEM valve cover gaskets preformed ? Thanks, Dan.
