As I had mentioned in a previous post my car pulls a little to the right while driving, as well as shakes a little between 55 and 58 mph. One of the things mentioned was that a bad back spring could be causing the pull, so before I spent the money on an alignment I checked out the rear of my wagon and the left side does sag a little more than the right, plus the car bounces more when I push down on the rear-left corner than it does when I push down on the rear-right corner (thus my rear left shock isn’t doing so good).

Question: What is the best price I can get for a decent pair of back springs, as well as shocks, and since I’m at it, the bushings too? I hardly ever carry cargo.

IPD sells overload springs for ~ $150 / pair, which are 20% stiffer than stock springs and give an extra 300 pounds of carrying capacity (which I don’t need), they also say “The design assures a good ride, even when your Volvo is free of cargo”, so I’m assuming that they are variable rate springs. I had called IPD and asked if they carried stock springs, they said no but the dealer prices were reasonable.

Yeah, right. I called the dealer, springs run $158 each (~ $320 / pair) and the shocks were ~ $150 each.

I called around to some local autoparts stores, Autozone and Parts Plus didn’t have any springs for a ’93 740, and NAPA wanted to know if it was a coupe or sedan (no wagons listed on their computer).

Is the IPD overload springs at $150 / pair and Boge Automatic or Turbo Gas springs at ~ $50 / $75 each (as I remember) my best value?

I noticed in the FAQ that MOOG “cargo coils” are good and reasonably prices (~ $70 / pair), but aren’t appropriate for the wagon (though they are good for the sedan).
