Old sour gas in the tank 444-544

My brother's PV544 sat neglected for 5 years. It was running well until then. The gas in the tank smells like varnish, and is clearly spoiled. Can someone offer recommendations about cleaning this out before I put in some new fuel? Thanks for your help.
