left side bulb failure (low beam + high beam) 200 1984

Welcome all,
Trying to sort out a no left side headlight problem...when hi beam switch is used, the entire left side drops out (driver's side), the right hand side works as advertised. Are we talking bulb-failure sensor? It does NOT light up at anytime. All bulbs are new (and I've swapped them around). I plugged a used hi-dipper relay in and also a BFSensor from the junk pile, but my efforts have been to no avail.
Where to go from here? thanks!
