Changing brake master cylinder 700 1990

My master brake cylinder started to fail. So today I replaced it.... I cleaned out the reservoir as well as could, but when I filled the with new brake fluid all the gunk that I thought wasn't going to come out of reservoir did. Now I really don't relish the thought of forcing that gunk down into my brake system.... any suggestions on how I might best clean the reservoir or should I just replace it.
