I was pulling out into traffic from a stop sign and had the throttle wide open when I experienced a sudden loss of power from about 30mph. All the dash lights came on and I coasted to the side of the road.

The car would fire but immediately stall. Seemed like a fuel problem. At first I thought I had blown the intake hose off of the throttle body but everything looked right.

I removed the AMM connection and the car started and idled. I was able to get back on the highway and limp home with a top speed of about 25mph. I had a spare AMM meter and decided to change them out.

As soon as I removed the top of the air box I saw pieces of foam. Totally broken down with a large amount of fine pieces inside the AMM. I assume the original AMM would have worked once I got things cleaned up but it was easier to replace that with the spare and clean up the old one at a later time. I hadn't encountered the "foam problem" in the past but now have an understanding of it. I assume that it was placed there originally to reduce the induction noise??

I have two other turbo cars that I will take the time to remove the foam from the airbox. Seems like a good preventative measure.
