blower fan motor 700 1989

Hey Everybody,
I have a 1989 760t/i. When th a/c-htr fan motor comes on I hear it blow like a hurricane but nothing comes out of the dash or floorboard vents. It,cold or hot air, only comes out of dash SIDE vents. My mechanic checked that little vacuum valve, actually put a new valve on to do this, but not the problem. He thinks that somehow the motor wires got crossed (apparently by a previous owner) and to remedy the problem he has advised I dig my way thru the cowlings, etc. and reverse the wires.
Any thoughts?
