1983 245DL Premium or Regular? 200

No owner's manual with my "new" (and first) 1983 245DL stick, Brick, so do I burn premium? Tried regular and mid-grade and she knocks like hell.
If she does burn regular might the timing be off? Can I adjust the distributor as in the days of yore? Can live without the status of $2.00 a gallon. Thanks.
