Anyone torn apart m46 and m47 transmissions?

I grabbed an m47 out of the junkyard last weekend to put in my '84 242. I know it won't drive my speedometer, so what I'm wondering is what parts of the transmissions are swappable. Anyone know? It would be interesting if the speedometer drive mechanism could be taken from the old m46 and mated to the m47. Haven't been inside the m46 yet since it's still in the car. Anyone done this or have knowledge about such things?
