hesitating off the line 700 1991

Hi, I am experiencing a loss of power and hesitation. This has occured before, and it has seemed to fix itself, so i have ignored it until now, when it has become more severe. The hesitation starts in when i am coming to a stop, i can feel when it is going to start doing this, its almost a feeling that it is losing power and idling more roughly. When coming to a stop then, it seems to idle fine, if not a bit rough and feels like less sound is coming from the engine. But when i push the gas to go off the line, the engine just stutters for a few seconds, moves a bit, studders again (by this time the check engine light has popped on), then proceeds to drive (almost) normally, albeit with a feeling of less engine noise and power. Tonight, I took the time to pull the codes from the computer, and recieved a 1-2-1 code, which is Faulty signal to/from Air Mass Meter. I am wondering if this also might possibly be a FPR (fuel pressure regulator), since i sometimes smell gas when turning off the car, along with a constant screeching sound occasionally when pulling into the garage (fuel pump?) (only happens some of the time). So my question is what are the chances that it really is the AMM and not something else.

Any advice would be appreciated
Thanks in advance,
Christian
