brake lines in a 210 Duett 444-544 1967

I'm working on a complete replacement of my brake system, converting to front discs in the process. I climbed under the car yesterday to begin removal of my brake lines and discovered (much to my dismay) that the junction between the fixed line to the back and the flexible back hose seems to be (almost) buried behind the fuel tank. To make it worse, I plan on installing a proportioning valve at that junction. Do I have to remove the gastank?? I would be grateful to anyone who has completed a similar project for advice and words of wisdom.

Many thanks!
