shuttering problem on acceleration from a stop 1982 DL 200

When accelerating from a stop especially if the car is loaded with people, the drive train shudders until up to speed. It seems more pronounced when it's warm, also the auto trans clunks when shifting at times. Are the problems related or two seperate issues?
