Hey, a friend of mine told me to come here for good information. I had him go check out an 89 240DL for me earlier today. He gave a good report on the car and I had really intended to buy it. My wife talked me into buying a motorcycle instead.
I'm wondering if the price was good and if I've shot myself in the foot for not buying it.
Production date: 6/89
Blue with blue cloth interior
Body and paint all but absolute perfect
Interior in great shape, door pockets even still good.
Glove box door needs some latch work
AW trans
B230F
here's his checkup list
Engine: runs perfect, compression very good and even (not shure what that means) Needs Flame trap and oil breather cleaned, slight crank pressure.
Engine electrical: Harness perfect. Alt not charging correctly, 90% positive a regulator would take care of it
Transmission: clean bill of health
Brakes: clean bill of health
Body: cancer free and in excellent condition
Exhaust: Leak just ahead of the muffler (would this have cost much?)
OK, here's my own observations.
Looks GREAT.
Starts as soon as the key's turned and runs GREAT.
Drives GREAT.
The heated seats even work (something didn't feel right about the driver's seat, but might me be accustomed to my worn out one)
Ugly sticky stuff where tape once held the glove box closed. (even with that, it looks a hundred times better than the interior on my 91)
140k
How bad should I hit myself? The car has $3,000 on it, but I'm 100% positive that they would sell it for $2500 and 99.9999999999% certain they'd take $2000 if it were flashed. I've dealt with the people before and they've always been more interested in selling the cars than getting top dollar as they're clearing a profit @ bottom dollar. I've just never seen them to have a car this nice. Should I start kicking my own tail and how hard?
Anyway, I can't afford it now, so might as well get to kicking. lol
If any of you are near Centre, AL (in Cherokee county) and want a nice car that I 'think' is going to sell for a great price, call "The Cash Store" @ 256*927*7544. Just don't tell them that anyone told you to haggle price (haggle anyway, they're easy to deal with. I just don't want to tick them off @ me when next I deal with them :) ) OH, I don't know their address, but you should be able to find a map online easy enough by looking up Walmart in Centre, AL. It's on Hwy 411 and "the cash store" is right next door.
