It's just one of those ongoing problems that I really want to solve with a can of gas and a lit match, you know?
Ok, The Beast has always plagued me with fuel system problems. Most recently, after returning from school I began to revive my poor car (which has been sitting for basically two years). Naturally, the fuel system started giving me problems. So, a new filter, new pre-pump, and then a new main pump later (this was in october) everything seemed to be OK. The performance was basically back to where I remembered it, pickup was fine (maybe a little sluggish, but that's been attributed to the massive sub-woofer box in the back) and the only thing I could really comment on at the time was it was a little noisier than I had remembered it being. This wasn't the full on while that I heard when the pre-pump was dead, but it did sound like the main was working a little too hard. At any rate, performance OK + I need to drive now + loud stereo = ignorance is bliss.
When I did all that crap, I didn't change the accumulator though.
So, no, close to six months later... guess who's started asking for attention. That's right, someone has started making noise. It's coming from the main pump/accumulator assembly. The thing is, performance has not changed at all. Even when the tank is lower than 1/2.
So, now the questions. What does the accumulator do? It it possable that it could be clogged somehow, and making the main pump work too hard? Is it possable to clean it somehow, and make The Beast happy again? Should I just take my car to the lake and see if it floats? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Alternately, if anyone reading this lives in Vancouver BC and feels like taking The Beast out for a ride to see what I'm talking about...
Thanks brickers
