Need to replace cylinder head on '86 745t. Suggestions?; Caveats? 700 1986

I just found out that due to broken studs on my exhaust manifold, and the previous owners attempts at repair, that I now have a cracked cylinder head. I'm not sure that I'm up to the task of replacing it. So, I'd like info on purchasing the 'best' replacement and any suggestion on shops in the Southern Cal area to get it repaired. This is my 4th volvo, including a 122s, 242DL, and 245, and I don't want to get rid of it if there's a way to get this job done that doesn't too far exceed the $1000 that I paid for the vehicle.
