Should I trade my Turbo for a 77 242? 200

Hi,
I have a 1985 245ti and I love it, but it get's horrible gas mileage, and I'm not sure it will hold up. I love the turbo when the car runs well, but the auto make it a little boring to drive. It only has 140K, but a lot of the engine components seem like they might go within a couple of years, and I can't afford this to happen. I will be going to college next year and I will be very strapped for cash.

One of my teachers is trying to get rid of a really nice 1977 242dl and he offered me a special deal of $1400 for it. It has something like 70k on it and the interior and exterior look new. I think it has a manual, which would make driving a little more interesting and enguaging. I know this teacher very well and he takes very good care of his cars. I have looked at many volvos and I have never seen one in such good condition. I need good gas mileage because I will be doing a lot of highway driving, so I was thinking this could be a good car for that. Should I go and try to get $1400 for my turbo and get this car instead? I was also wondering what engine the 77 models have. Is it EFI or mechanical fuel injection? Also will the car have the gearing to cruise at 80mph for a couple of hours uphill? Thanks

Charles 1985 245ti
