'A/C Off' light flashing 900 1995

A curious thing happened tonight to my 95 960.
As I pulled around the back of my house, put the car in reverse, then into drive again it almost died. All the dash board light flashed on for a brief moment and now the "A/C off" light around the button on the climate control console is flashing. I had the climate control in auto with the a/c on.
I don't have any literature on what this means. Does anyone else know?
