Can somebody tell me what the deal is? When I go on various parts sites (volvoworld, Groton, etc.) they list an auto trans filter for my year (and other years) of 240, which appears to be a conventional paper element type trans filter. However, when I ask at dealers/independent shops, they say that all there is is a metal screen that rarely gets cloged - not worth pulling the pan to replace.
My 86' 240 only has 47,000 miles and is not giving any symptoms of trans problems, but I want to keep it that way by doing the correct maintenance. Just did the trans flush via the trans cooler line bypass - boy...that is one of the easiest and most satisfying things I have ever done to a car.
Thanks
