Dear Fellow Brickboarders,

May this find you well. Is it possible - and if possible, sensible - to put an engine from a 1985GL into a 1987 740 GLE?

I believe both use the B230F engine. Are the engine controls compatible? If not, can any differences be "bridged".

I have a rusted-out '85GL with 198.5K on the engine, which has had Mobil1 oil changes (every 3K) since there was Mobil1. Have a chance to get '87 740 GLE, with good bodywork, but dubious engine.

Any advice you can offer would be much appreciated.
