Hi!
With my 20+ year old brick I never gave a second thought to my antifreeze. I just added green stuff and water whenever I needed, and flushed things now and then. I guess things have changed, though, because now I also own a chevy S-10 (4.3 V-6 engine), and I am learning that "just add green stuff and water" is no longer kosher. So can anyone reassure me:
- Is just adding green stuff and (tap!) water okay for my 240?
- Is it okay to run on only water, if needed? As a backup, I have always told my wife that she can just put water in, in a pinch, even if it means that the car has only water. Except for the risk of freezing in the winter, that is...
- And just for my curiosity (and since S-10 owners just don't care enough to have a wonderful site like brickboard!), is the same thing true for modern engines such as, say, a standard 4.3 like the S-10. Someone mentioned something about "all water" setting up a bad electrolytic reaction with certain aluminum parts, like the head and radiator.
Thanks everyone!
