A/C compressor replacement 900

the compressor in my '94 960 bit the dust right before thanksgiving and not needing A/C till mid may i just put it off. i've got a compressor to replace it with.
has anyone swapped them out before?
the high pressure and me not knowing exactly whats in all that gunk sorta has me concerned about doing it myself.
