sunroof to moonroof? 700 1990

I picked up a moonroof today out of a 1993 960 at my favorite PnP along with all the cables and associated hardware with the thought that I might be able to make this work in my daughter's 1990 740 GL with the steel sunroof. I did a search for "moonroof" here at the board and found info that suggests that it can be done and also that it can't. I am planning on having a looksee on the car this weekend but was wondering if anybody online may have attempted this.
If it can be done it looks like a moonroof makes headliner replacement a little easier since there is a sliding shade instead of headliner material to contend with on the panel.
