Replacing hose and screen on in-tank pump fixes several problems 200

Lately my wagon had been having some mysterious fuel problems, running lean under boost and at idle sometimes, lacking power under full boost, and the main fuel pump was making an intermittent shrieking noise even though the in-tank pump was working. I bought a new filter sock for the in-tank pump and some 5/16 and 3/8 fuel hose to replace the little piece on the pump. Took out the pump, turned out the hose was swollen and cracked, and wasn't sealing at all around the metal pipe that runs outside the tank. Replaced the hose with the 5/16 fuel line as it was a good tight fit, and replaced the somewhat dirty and torn metal filter sock with the new fabric one, reinstalled the pump, and cleaned up the ground connection under the floor. Big difference, the car runs more smoothly at all speeds, is much faster, doesn't seem to run lean under any condition, and the main pump is now so quiet I wasn't sure if it was working at first. So for $30 and a couple hours of pretty easy work I was able to fix a running problem that would probably have set me back hundreds at the local volvo garage, and learned a bit more about my car in the process. I'd like to thank the people at the Brickboard for answering all my questions very quickly, and coming up with helpful, quality advice. Also, my Bentley was indispensable during this operation.
