Gas gauge from 1990-1992 744 in 1988 700

Hello there. Back when I was driving a 1991 744 NA, I grew rather accustomed to having a low gas light in the car. Now I have a 1988 744 TIC and it has no indicator light. It wouldn't matter to me if I knew how much gas I have when I'm in the red, but I don't and I have no intention of experimenting to find out. With the gas light, I knew how much gas was left when it came on. Would the newer gauge be a direct replacement with mine now or would I need to change sensor, do more wiring, etc? Thanks.
