is WD40 ok to spray on central bearing? 200 1989

can I apply WD40 on the central bearing of the driveshaft? is it safe and effective? I plan to go to pep boys tomorrow. any particular brand of grease you guys recommend? something that has a straw-type thing to get to the bearings. thanks!
