the steering in my '91 945t has been acting strange for a while, not returning to center properly, hard to turn at some points in the travel of the wheel, general stiff and soft spots. today it began to make audible clicking popping noises at intervals of the turning radius, and on the way back to center. i can feel the vibrations of the click in the wheel. after doing this for a couple hours of driving (i drive A LOT), it stopped, but the general poor performance of the steering remains. the faq seems to say that this is the steering column u-joints, and that i should spray them with a lubricant to see. are these u-joints accessible when the car is jacked up? are they right upstream from the rack? my symptoms pretty much mirror those of the dude in the faq, but what could it be if the lubing thing fails to yield results? what kind of lube should i use? grease? thanks in advance for responses.
