A/C Thermo Switch Broken? 200

I just bought a sweet little '89 245 that has some issues. Everything is going well except for the A/C. The compressor won't engage to take a charge. I noticed the console was loose and found the white sheathed copper tube to the A/C Thermo switch was severed. My question is will this prevent the compressor from engaging and is it repairable?
