Hot water valve-- adjustable or just replace? 200 1992

Hello all:

I can no longer turn off the heat completely in my '92 245, no matter how far to the left I set the temperature control. I removed the cover near the driver's right foot, but I couldn't see anywhere to adjust the water valve cable travel. Likewise, there did not seem to be any adjustment capability at the temperature control slider side. Am I missing something, or do I need to replace the valve fix this? I understand that there is a difference between early and late valves (no capillary tube on the late versions). I was shocked to see the price of the ScanTech (ugh!) replacement valve at alloemvolvoparts.com-- $75+! FCPgroton.com also has a "universal replacement", unfortunately also ScanTech, for $34... Anyone have any experience with these valves? I am wondering if they are both updates to the newer style-- comparing the tiny photo on the alloemvolvoparts.com site to the one behind my center console seems to suggest this might be true for theirs... I'd like to get this sorted out before AC season here in Southwestern Ontario!

Thanks!
