Absolute last A/C post -- by me anyway 700

Ok, got my non-working A/C tested and it's got a bad leak at the compressor shaft seal.

First, does that sound right? Not an expert at this.

Shop said he can put in a used compressor and recharge the system with F12 for $400. I saw in the faqs that F12 is marginal for Volvos. Should I avoid this option?

Other option is to put in a new compressor and R134 conversion kit. I see FCP groton has a d-tiki 134 compressor for 265. Anyone have experience with them?

Since the system is empty -- shop said "massive leak" and no R12 is left -- I'm thinking of doing the installation job myself. What would I need besides the compressor and conversion kit? Any additional seals or parts?

Or am I kidding myself and just someone to do the compressor and conversion?

Thanks,
