240 Odometer/Speedometer malfunction! Help! 200

I can never understand why it is that Volvo speedometers never seems to work. Either the odometer is out, the speedometer is out, or both are shot. I recently purchased a 93 245 and neither the odometer or speedometer work. Are there any things that I should be looking for to repair both. The speedometer reads K39200. This appears to be an electronic device as there are no cables that are attached to the speedometer. Any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated! Thanks so much!
